Toronto Living - a beautiful Temple

The Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto

We finally had a chance last weekend, to visit the new temple in Toronto - The Swaminarayan Temple. It is a very beautiful temple - full of intricately hand-carved marbles imported from India. Read more here. Using no nails and no steel, the temple is held together through the sheer force of gravity and has been assembled like a jigsaw puzzle.

yeah guys, very beautiful.
Thanks for all your comments.

I've been to the one in Surat. The sun was setting down right behind the temple as we got down from the rickshaw and it was the most gorgeous sunset I've ever seen.

Indo, Asha and all others, I'm going to write more and more about Toronto to make you all visit me. :)

Indira, I have no clue :) We were in and out in a jiffy because strollers were not allowed inside and meera was sleeping in the stroller...so, me and Bee took turns going in and praying..
I'll enquire about this and let you know.

Sig, wow! we could have been there at the same time. yes, we did go there on 18th, the saturday. :)

Kay,I went to the one in Houston,Texas for this long weekend and I must say they look identical...I saw photographs of the one in Atlanta on another website, and it was the same ! I guess they maintain the same architecture and that is a marvel in itself !! I could not decide where to concentrate more...the gorgeous pillars...or the arches joining them or the ceiling !! I was blown away by the detailed carving...but I was a little taken aback by their darshan rules..

Here is what I have found about the founders of this temple. The BAPS Swaminarayan Complex is the creation of Bochasanwasi Shree Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha). Established in India, in 1907, BAPS is a worldwide civic and religious organization dedicated to the spirituality of the individual while promoting harmony between individuals, within families and within diverse communities. Since 1970 BAPS has been serving in Canada in the areas of: Spirituality, Children and Youth Development, Family Unity, Indian Heritage and Humanitarian Services. BAPS is a federally registered charity in Canada.
Well, this is a building you will not find on our website .
Although Toronto real estate agents do try their best...
